Van Briggle pottery was started in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by Artus Van Briggle in 1901. Van Briggle studied and worked at Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati starting in 1887, as well as in Paris under Rookwood’s sponsorship from 1893 – 1896. It was in Paris, seeing the Chinese Ming dynasty matte glazes and Art Nouveau designs that inspired his work.

He died in 1904 and his wife took over the company until it was sold in 1912. The company was renamed the Van Briggle Pottery and Tile Company in 1910 and later the Van Briggle Art Pottery Company in 1931. The company is still operational today.

The most collectible and valuable Van Briggle pottery pieces are the ones made when Van Briggle ran the company. The ones produced by his wife are also highly sought after.

Van Briggle Pottery Marks
Prior to 1907 – all pieces had a “AA” mark, a date, and “Van Briggle”, some pieces after 1907 had those marks as well
After 1920 – “Colorado Springs, Colorado” or sometimes just an abbreviation

I have a pale pink Van Briggle vase with A within square marking and Colo. Spas marking on bottom. It is 8 1/2″ tall and is wider at bottom that slims at middle and flares a little up to top. It would hold maybe 2 long stemmed flowers.
I am wondering if you could give me an idea of it’s worth.

I have a black Owl glazed that I purchased in the 60’s/ Can you give me information on that piece. It is signed. I also had a black vase that had an original shade with butterflies. It is now in the hands of a relative. I still love the owl, just curious if they have any value. Thank you, Marilynn Sustala PS. I bought at the Van Briggle warehouse in Colorado Springs.

I have a Van Briggle ‘Lorelei Vase’. Looking at the bottoms of ones posted here for sale, I see none like mine where on the bottom of the vase there is only the familiar symbol, Van Briggle Colo. Sprgs. ~~~~ why does my vase not have any of the letters & other things I’ve seen on the bottoms? Mine was an Estate Sale Purchase. Thank you. Kathleen Smith ~ I am considering selling it.

I have various pieces of Wine and the blue-green VB.
I need to sell these. I inherited all from my parents and sister, who were collectors.
They mostly small, one big lamp (about 18 inches, and a smaller tri footed lamp on the blue- green. A number of vase FROGS and two sets of suger and creamer, both red.

We are downsizing to a small retirement cottage, or I would keep everything.

Anyone seriously interested, let me know.
