Marblehead Pottery

Marblehead Pottery was founded in 1905, in Marblehead, Massachusetts, by Dr. Herbert J. Hall. Dr. J. Hall introduced making hand-thrown pottery as part of a therapeutic program for patients of a sanitarium in Marblehead, Massachusetts. In 1915, Arthur E. Baggs purchased the company and a year later in 1916, pottery production was moved from the hospital to another factory.

Most of the pieces produced are a single color stoneware, with a smooth, porous, even finish or a hard, pebbled matte-colored tone. Many pieces had floral, landscape or marine designs.

Arthur E. Baggs, a potter for the company, ran the factory until is closed in 1936.
